From Kick Me With Your Best Shot
KMWYBS: 4
Kickin It: 2
Our rookie team has made its first victory! We started off strong in the very first inning with an exceptional team effort. Gary's kick in the first inning allowed Jon to get on 2nd, and for yours truly to round 3rd and get to home for the first run of the game. The next several innings had exceptional pitching battles as not many runs were scored - props to Eli for playing and pitching like a champ. MVP goes to Gary for his solo homerun to open up the fourth inning, stretching the lead and giving our team some breathing room in what turned out to be a close game. Lastly, thanks to Kaitlyn for her sweet cell phone tunes that no one could hear but her. Luckily her smooth dance moves on the sidelines didn't distract Melissa, who made an impressive catch off a high ball in left field. Unfortunately, due to the copious amount of beers and the deadly JD, I can't remember any more specifics from the game. However, we did sing an off-tune version of "Hit (Kick) Me With Your Best Shot" in between flip cup games. I apologize to anyone who was sober enough to really witness and remember this event.

Yeah.... so we played some kickball. Made some good plays, but fell short on runs. (Still not sure how someone managed to count as an out and a run, but hey, IJK.) Our victory of the night was on the flip cup table as we managed to outlast every opponent with our stellar teamwork and sheer prowess. The wall of blue stayed strong with some solid flipping and some hot dance moves. I could say more, but the pictures do it justice. Let's get FURM!

It Burns When I Kick- 5
Our normal beat writer was on leave last night, hopefully nursing his bum ankle that has kept him on the side lines for most of the season. I’ll do my best to provide a breakdown of the events that occurred between the hours of 7:00pm and 8:00pm but don't expect me to quit my day job.
It Burns When I Kick (IBWIK) coming off a loss, was hungry for our first win, Kick Nuggets happened to be the team that had to face our wrath. Before the game It Burns questioned even being able to compete due to an injury plagued team. Captain Eric J Burns (pinched nerve), Lukasz with a Z (various ailments), Elvin (bum ankle/shoulder) were all placed on the DL prior to the games start. Oh and there was Dan who was MIA due to his trip to P-Town. The kickball gods however were smiling us that night and we had some new comers finally show up, Jonny Tran (not in Fast Five) Gregg Daly, and Matt (Chris). Also with a late display of his dedication, Dave Big Papi, reluctantly confirmed his spot on It Burns mush to the delight of Kristin.
It Burns started the game cold at the plate. Molly with her restless leg laid down a bunt that ended up in the 3rd baseman’s hands and then Lauren got gunned out while running out her kick. She would later also be placed on the DL with a quad injury (for those playing fantasy there are no more DL spots and you must start dropping players) There was a glimmer of hope in the 1st when Nethom got on with two outs and Big Papi came to the plate. He boomed a shot deep into right only to have it miraculous caught with a one handed pull down by a female on Kick Nuggets. Visibly shaken It Burns took the field.
Nethom got the call up to be the starting pitcher, even though he conveniently lost his kickball shirt and dawned a sleeveless Uconn Jersey. We can let it slide though bc they are national champs. In any case he pitched a real gem, must of be the tank top. With the iron curtain that was our fielding backing him up, we held them scoreless through 4 innings. It was not until the 5th that we allowed a single run and it was off a botch catch by yours truly and a off point throw to first that allowed the run to score.
Some key plays were by Heather who really used her body to stop the ball, Ashley proving to be a top recruit in right, Dave showcasing his range in the outfield by tracking down the ball, Matt showing why he is on the team by sacrificing the body, and Gregg showing his reach at first to stop arrant throws by me and others. Rich held down the plate and aside from the almost collision/make out with Nethom had a good outing as well. I would also like to note that Rosie would have had some plays had I not been stealing anything that came her way.
It Burns after starting off cold was able to put up a total of 5 runs over the course of the game. Mastering the bunt Molly got on base and eventually scored. Matt hustled out a single and made it home with some heads up base running. Heather made it on base without having to Pete Rose into the bag at all. Dave had his usually towering shots, Gregg added in some as well. Rich late in the game fired a laser at Kick Nuggets pitcher who now may have a matching WAKA tat with one of our team members. Sorry for the lack of detail however at this point I was more than half in the bag and trying not to see the Calamari from Salute make another appearance. No one else was really able to fill in the blanks for me either.
However it would not be a game if the now famous Luk-a-Zuk Shuffle didn’t make an appearance. This dance crazy that is sweeping the nation once again came here to Hartford. It was not a dance off but Gregg and Toni caught the fever! With 1 out and a ball hit in the air, instead of holding the bag until it is caught, they all decided to just leave it to fate and try to take the next base. Once realizing the mistake they break into the Luk-a-Zuk and however good their moves are, they are eventually called out as the ball is calmly thrown to the base. Jonny Tran, who has obviously not seen the Utube video, just ran to 2nd after a fly ball was caught. Luk will be leading dance rehearsals in the cafĂ© this week so everyone knows the moves next time.
