There are many ways to gauge one's dedication to kickball. Most players will practice, show up for games, own the flip cup table at the bar after, make cameos at division functions, have a team clambake during division playoffs (thanks again, Swift Kick). And then there are those who wake up when many people are just finishing up a BLT with a side of pancakes at the local diner, sprint thru the New Haven train station to (barely) make the first train into Grand Central to make the 7am start of 'The Early Show' on CBS in New York City.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it took one dedicated group of CT Lightning and CT Storm players to wake up at 3am, rough it through a brisk, fall Saturday morning and cheer as loud as we all know kickballers can on national television. On October 23rd, WAKA kickball players ruled the guest audience on The Early Show. With fancy t-shirts, some kickballs and some homemade signs, players got a chance to show viewers at home just how awesome kickball players really are...even after elementary school.
A big thanks to our NYC hosts who blessed us with hot coffee, good times, great tour guide-ism (yeh, I said it) and introduced us to what may have very well been the world's greatest mac & cheese. Good times were had by all, playing kickball right on the plaza of the General Motors building. (Yeh, I said that, too. We're kind of a big deal), touring the studio and, well, just being are overly awesome selves.
We'll be sure to keep everyone posted on future kickball 'field trips.'
